P1 - New York City Lights

The “P1 - New York City Lights” Project

This project showcases the use of modern column luminaires in the demanding public spaces of New York City. The lighting system was designed to harmonize with the scale of the skyscrapers and serve as an element that organizes pedestrian traffic and provides resting areas.

Key features of the system:

Architectural Form: The luminaires take the form of tall, slender columns with a cylindrical shape, allowing them to blend seamlessly into the vertical lines of the adjacent office buildings.

Contrasting Color Scheme: The use of a black pole body with light gray trim elements at the base and at the head gives the entire structure a modern, technical look.

Effective Light Distribution: The lighting head, made of an opalescent material, ensures even light diffusion across its entire surface, eliminating glare for pedestrians in close proximity.

Integration with Street Furniture: The lighting columns are arranged along pedestrian walkways equipped with concrete benches and low walls, creating visually cohesive relaxation zones in the heart of the city.

Durability and Functionality: The sturdy construction of the pole bases and their dense placement allow for effective illumination of wide squares and intersections, enhancing users’ sense of safety.
